BigFooty Breaks Through and the Press Notices

23 Oct 2003

BigFooty.com’s breakthrough moment has arrived. The site’s first high-profile mention on the back page of The Herald-Sun in September has precipitated a tripling of daily new user registrations.

The confirmation that the All Australian side, an honourary list of the best players in the country, matched a list posted on BigFooty.com sent an uproar through the footy community and gained us mentions in other media as well. Since the initial Herald-Sun article the site has been mentioned on radio and The Footy Show, the highest rating Aussie Rules show on television.

Fox Sports World Strikes Alliance With BigSoccer

5 Mar 2003

Answering the growing demand for in-depth coverage of international sports, Fox Sports World and FoxSports.com today announced the launch of the channel’s new online home, www.foxsportsworld.lycos.com. The revamped site lets Fox Sports World extend its programming through enhanced interactive features, and enables the channel to more effectively promote its popular international sports properties and offer integrated media sales packages.

With the launch of its new site, FoxSportsWorld.com also teams up with BigSoccer, North America’s premier soccer online community, to combine FoxSportsWorld.com content with BigSoccer’s popular message board services to serve and encourage the growing community of soccer fans in the United States. Last year, FoxSportsWorld.com also entered into a comprehensive distribution and marketing agreement with online network Terra Lycos.

“By supplementing our broadcast properties with the best, integrated on-line content available, FoxSportsWorld.lycos.com will establish itself as the online home for North America’s fans of soccer and international sports,” said David Sternberg, General Manager of Fox Sports World. “We are pleased to join with BigSoccer and Terra Lycos in serving this passionate and loyal sports community.”

“This alliance combines the breadth and depth of Fox Sports World’s news and analysis with the global scope of BigSoccer’s community properties,” said Jesse Hertzberg, President of BigSoccer, Inc. “U.S. based fans of American, European and Latin American soccer now have the definitive online destination to call home.”

FoxSportsWorld.lycos.com will enhance the television channel’s programming with integrated, interactive features including the Fox Sports World Report Topic of the Week, and the Fox Sports World Club Rankings, Fox Sports’ bi-weekly rankings of the world’s top soccer clubs. The site also offers live scores and top news from the world’s major soccer leagues such as Major League Soccer, the Barclaycard English Premier League, and Mexico’s First Division. Soccer, rugby, cricket and motor racing are featured in special sections with premium content devoted to Fox Sports World programming. Commentators Nick Webster, Giles Elliott, Allen Hopkins, and Matt Brown bring their expertise and entertaining perspectives to international sports fans in featured columns.

“This site sets the standard for the converged international sports coverage,” said Ross Levinsohn, Senior Vice President and General Manager of FoxSports.com. “The extensive coverage and integration with television broadcasts makes this a shot on goal for consumers of both mediums.”

Fox Sports World is available through affiliated cable systems, and through DirecTV and Dish Network satellite providers. Fox Sports World is affiliated with Fox Sports International, an international sports programming and production entity housed within the Fox Cable Networks Group, one of the major operating units within the Fox Entertainment Group (NYSE:FOX) and News Corporation (NYSE:NWS). BigSoccer Spawns BigFooty. Aussie Rules Change Forever.

19 May 2000

It is September 1999 and Adrian Appleyard’s AFLTips.com tipping competition has had a good season with 2,000 members. The Footynet general footy news web site is getting a small amount of traffic, but the busiest page on either web site is a message board.

Searching the net, Adrian stumbles across the BigSoccer.com forum and approaches the owners about creating an Australian Football version.

It is now December 1999 and BigFooty.com has launched with high hopes of becoming a central footy forum where fans from all teams can meet and talk footy all day, every day of the year.
